This is a photo of the fair at Coney Beach, Porthcawl, South Wales. Sometimes you just have to take advantage of the light. And it was, indeed, a beautiful day to follow.

By the way, you wouldn’t catch me on that ride!

We often think that the more we spend on an experience, the better value it is. Yet, with views like this so close to home, why spend money we don’t have on memories we won’t remember? I have often lamented that most people know far away places better than they know their own backyard.

So why not try a holiday at home? Look around your neighbourhood as if you were a tourist. You never know what you might find.

Except that you cannot enjoy this ride, anymore. The funfair was closed for the last time in 2025, leaving behind only the memories of those of us who experienced it.

My Choice

No one can “make” us angry. Whatever happens to us, we have a choice as to how we respond.

We have looked at the value of solitude, confidants, and groups. We have looked at how to deal with other people’s choices when they impact on our lives. Now it’s time to look at the things that we can control. And it’s important to start with our choices.

We have already touched on this subject in the previous post, Not My Choice, where we looked at our circles of influence and concern. We highlighted the need to concentrate on those matters that we can influence. Now let’s go deeper.
